About John & L.A. Spears Foundation

The John & L.A. Spears Foundation was established on May 14, 1999, by Leahdell A. Spears. The Foundation provides scholarships to assist deserving students in pursuing college, university, technical, and similar advanced education and training. Graduate-level and study in the field of law are excluded.

The John & LA Spears Foundation is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization incorporated in Georgia. Funds provided by this Foundation are used to pay for tuition, fees, and books. Applications are accepted during the year and are reviewed for approval at the annual board meetings.

The application process consists of three parts. Part One includes contact information as well as information concerning current education. In Part Two, applicants are asked to list their extracurricular activities and summarize college plans. Part Three focuses on the applicant’s scholastic achievement.
Following the return of all parts of the application, committee members will review the applications and select recipients to receive a scholarship. All recipients will be notified of the amount of scholarship awarded. The Board meets once a year to review the applications and will notify applicants of its approval decision.
